Okey I went to the gym with a lazy body after too much sleep (lol 🤣) but it turned out to be a freaking awesome session because I have a sick mind. Who decides to do a pyramid in push press when you don't feel so motivated to work out?!! Last Thursday's (8/15) upper body strength session. My back was fuuuuucked up from the previous day's lower body strength session, as you will see with my bench, but my log presses and incline work made up for it. The program: I. (Unrecorded:) Barbell rows, aiming for 2 x 2 @ 410lbs (185kg). II. Bench presses: Aiming for 2 x 1 @ 410lbs (185kg). III. Log push presses: Shooting for 2 x 2 @ 270lbs (122kg), clean reps. IV. Incline barbell presses: Aiming for 2 x 2 @ 330lbs (149kg). V. (Unrecorded accessories:) Pullups, seated cable rows, lat pulldowns, cable face pulls, dumbbell skullcrushers, dumbbell concentration curls, rotator cuff external rotations. The videos: 1.~2. Pitiful attempts at 410lbs (185kg); the first one needed assistance, as my left scapula loosened on me. I got the second by myself, even though there was a terrible down-up because my right scapula opened. Disappointing, but my bench hasn't been my focal point and my back was still messed up from the previous day's lower body strength session. Beat my past record with this 245 pounds overhead push press. ✊ 1.14% of my bodyweight. 🆙 Think push-ups are easy? Simple; yes. But easy? Not at all. At least not if you want to perform a proper, good looking push-up. . 📈 When it comes to upper body exercises involving pushing (or pressing), you will see the demands on scapula stability and core strength increase as the level of difficulty and intensity/load goes up. And I believe it’s often underestimated how difficult it is to perform movements such as push-ups and overhead press with good alignment and high quality. . 🔗 Pelvis and scapula are two key areas that needs great motor control and body awareness. The third - and obvious one - is stability of the spine [read; core stability]. In higher levels of multi-joint movements they all connect and work in synchrony but sometimes it’s good to have a spectrum of movements listed from low to high skill when designing a program and prescribing exercises. . 🏋️‍♂️ Following up on my previous posts of the squat and hip hinge pattern, here are some example progressions of the push pattern; from low skill to high skill exercises. . ⚙️ If you are working in the fitness industry - or if you’re creating your own training programs in the gym - you need to have a system of reasoning when it comes to exercise selection. When you say you don’t have time to train...this guy @alfredobandini has a legitimately crazy work schedule. He used his holidays to perform his own training camp because getting better at CrossFit was a big priority for him. Did we do too much? Probably 😂. But if I’m spending a whole week with someone for two sessions a day, I couldn’t have asked for anyone who was more dedicated to improving themself. Late post from yesterday’s workout!! The other day (Thursday) I tried using the machines at work. I’m not a machine kind of gal because it doesn’t allow me to move in various planes, & I feel awkward when using them, but I put all that aside and tried the cable machine anyway. I tried doing a few of the exercises I’ve seen on IG & on the side of the machine. Yup! Lol still not a fan. I went back to what I know and enjoy on Friday (yesterday)!! Push Press (65#), KB swings (35#), and Concept rower. 21 reps (21 cal row) across the board 3 rounds!!! Some overhead presses from yesterday @ 45 lbs. I normally shoulder press with dumbbells as I feel more stable in it, but I do like the OHP because it recruits a bit of the pecs & triceps in addition to the deltoids. A helpful tip on these is keeping your core as tight as you can. To do this I squeeze my abs & glutes, and also make sure to take a deep breath into my stomach before pressing. Then, I exhale as or after I exert the force. OHP tends to be people’s weakest lift, and this is particularly noticeable in women. This is due to the fact that while women can have up to ~70% of the lower body strength as men, they usually don’t have more than ~50% of the upper body strength. Exacerbating this biological difference, there are often differences in training behavior, with women neglecting training their upper body for aesthetic reasons (unfounded fears of getting “bulky”). Most people don’t realize that as a woman, you CANNOT look muscular unless you *want* to and train like a fucking BEAST to achieve it. There’s not nearly enough testosterone in us to allow us to put on muscle easily (it’s hard enough for men to do, for us it’s 100x harder). Even those of us like myself who are TRYING to get jacked and add lean muscle mass to our body have a fucking hard time doing so. So trust me, it doesn’t happen by accident ;) Train your upper body and train it hard! The only side effect you’ll probably see is feeling strong as hell in everyday life.

Första passet efter tävlingen, kul att vara tillbaka igen efter fem dagars vila! Smalmark upp till 100 kg, vilket känns tungt. Kommer ta ett tag att vänja sig då jag till 90% kör sumo annars. Lite speedträning på 60 kg som avslut för att nöta rörelsebanan. Pressar, även där fokus på fart och explosivitet upp till 35 kg. Måste jobba på att trycka mer med benen i pushpressen. Friday night Olympic Lifting. I have always struggled with my snatch technique. Specifically with the overhead squat. My mobility needs a hell of a lot of work, so dropping under the bar with it over head feels alien and uncomfortable. I end up working with an empty bar to drill it over and over. Thankfully I get to lift heavy with the push press and can definitely see my strength improving.
